The 8862 is a 3/4 inch brass valve body designed for the Simmons new style 900 series yard hydrants. The 8862 will connect the hydrant to the plumbing. The hole near the middle of the valve body is referred to as the weep, or drain hole. The weep hole is designed to insure that all of the water drains from the hydrant once it has been shutoff. This helps prevent water from being trapped inside of the hydrant. If there is water trapped inside of the pipe, and it freezes it can lead to a crack in the hydrant.
